APRIL 68 3/4

DIONNE WARWICK - DO YOU KNOW THE WAY TO SAN JOSE
Another Bacharach/David hit for her . Hal David had been stationed in San Jose in the Navy. Of course Miss Warwick doesn’t like it .”"It's a dumb song and I didn't want to sing it”
Frowning all the way to the bank . A #10 hit, this is another one of those songs, you heard everywhere, in the original , and the many, many covers .

WILSON PICKETT - SHE’S LOOKIN’ GOOD
He didn’t have the huge hits he had earlier, but he did have some fine records in 68, this one among them . #15 Pop, #7 R&B .

AMBOY DUKES - album - JOURNEY TO THE CENTER OF YOUR MIND
Detroit’s psychedelic blues rock band with guitarist Ted Nugent, . I like this better than Ted’s later material .
Maybe their best known piece .

THE ZOMBIES - album - ODYSSEY AND ORACLE - April 19
Talk about a band having a hard time . After their initial success, with the hits “She’s Not There”, and “Tell Her No” , they had less, and less luck . Finally they switch record companies to CBS , where they started a new album .They were so short on cash, that they couldn’t afford to hire session musicians, but since they were recording at Abbey Road studios, The Beatles had, after finishing “Stg Peppers”, had left Lennon’s mellotron there, and they used it instead of extra musicians . It was initially only mixed to mono; members Ron Argent, and Chris White, got some song writing royalties, which they used to payout of their own pocket for a stereo mix. They released two singles from the album, and they failed to chart . That and with declining concert attendance, they threw in the towel in Dec. 67 . The album was released in April 68, and almost didn’t get a release in the US , except for Al Kooper, convinced the label to release it . It sold poorly at first , but the third single from it “Time of The Season”, was a slow burn, eventually peaking at #3 in March of 1969, almost a year later . The days the album is considered a classic .

The Zombies info is good stuff that I didn't know. I enjoy your posts for the history as well as the music. She's Not There was a favorite and was stuck in my head for a while. Maybe the screaming.

All songs here were good and different. Pickett sure had the rhythm and groove in all of his music, Nugent could play the dancers danced and all the Warwick Bacharach Davis stuff is ingrained.

There was this comment on Hung up on a Dream.
"This song makes me feel nostalgic for a time I wasn't alive in lol."

Amboy Dukes was definitely; if not the best, some of the best of Mr. Nugent's work.
